What you get. A working lamp, or the shade on its own.

What do I actually get?

Complete lamp is the whole thing: the printed shade, a lampholder wired and ready, and the right LED bulb. Table and small sizes come on a turned wood base with an in-line switch; the pendant comes with a two-metre braided cord and a ceiling rose.

Shade only is the printed shade by itself, with its E27 ring. Choose it if you already own a lamp or a pendant fitting you like and only want to change what sits on it.

If you are not sure, take the complete lamp. It arrives working, and it comes with the bulb these shades are designed around.

Size. Pick the one that fits the room.

Which size should I choose?

The measurement is the widest part of the shade, which is how lampshades are sold and how they are shelved.

Small suits a bedside table or a shelf. Table is the one most people want and fits a standard table lamp. Pendant is wider and shallower because it is seen from below and further away.

If the shade is going on a lamp you already own, measure the widest point of the old shade rather than its height.

Colour. It changes the light, not just the look.

What does the colour change?

More than the look. The wall is 0.42 mm thick, so the colour decides how much light gets through it as well as what colour that light is.

Bone passes about 60% of the light and gives the softest, most even glow. Slate passes about 23%: switched off it reads as a solid dark object, and switched on almost all you see is the pattern itself. Clay sits between them and throws amber.

Choose bone or sand if the lamp is meant to light the room. Choose clay or slate if it is meant to be the thing you look at.

How does it attach to my lamp?

Every shade has an E27 ring built into it, printed as one piece with four spokes. E27 is the ordinary large screw fitting used almost everywhere outside North America.

It drops over the lampholder and is held by the shade ring, the same as a fabric shade. Nothing is glued and nothing needs assembling.

If you have no lamp yet, add the cord set to hang it, or the wood base to stand it on a table.

Which bulb, and why it matters

LED only, 6 W or less, and this one is not a preference.

The shade is printed in PLA, which softens at around 60 C. An incandescent or halogen bulb inside a shade this close will distort it. An LED runs cool enough that it never gets near.

2700 K is the warm white these are rendered and finished against. A cooler bulb will make bone look grey.

Living with it

Dust it with a dry brush or a puff of air; the perforations catch a cloth. Do not put it in water and do not put it near heat — PLA softens around 60 °C, which is why the bulb matters more than anything else on this page.

Your shade starts as a spool of filament and a few hours of machine time, begun the day after you buy it. There is no warehouse and no shelf of finished stock — which is why the range is short, why it changes, and why the piece that arrives has been printed for you rather than picked.
